Creating a Culture of Food Safety – What Does It Mean?

Food safety is not just a requirement; it is a core value at ASEPT. As a company committed to delivering safe, high-quality products, ASEPT places strong focus on building a food safety culture that involves every employee.
We sat down with Linda Andersson, ASEPT’s Quality Manager, to discuss what food safety culture means, how international certifications influence daily operations, and the steps ASEPT takes to keep its team engaged and motivated. Here she shares her perspective.
Q1 | Food safety is a big part of ASEPT’s identity. What does “food safety culture” mean to you?
Food safety culture refers to awareness and behaviors within the company that prioritize food safety in product design, material selection, controlled production processes and hygienic product handling. Food safety culture is owned by everyone in the company, and together we strive for continuous improvement.
Q2 | ASEPT is certified according to FSSC 22000 and ISO standards. How do those certifications impact daily operations?
Being ISO certified affects daily work by ensuring standardized routines, clear documentation, defined responsibilities, and continuous improvement. If we all follow standardized procedures and record activities, this creates consistency and reduces errors, which in turn is cost‑effective. ISO certification also fosters a culture of continuous improvement, where staff are encouraged to identify risks, report deviations, and actively contribute to corrective actions.
Q3 | What are the specific ways ASEPT build this culture among employees?
By involving people and keeping an open, close dialogue, we build a stronger company culture. When everyone feels included and heard, it creates trust, teamwork, and a shared drive to improve together.
Q4 | How do ASEPT/you motivate the team to stay engaged with food safety, even when things get busy?
When we all stick to the same routines and keep track of what we do, it makes things smoother and cuts down on mistakes.
Q5 | What is one thing you are particularly proud of in ASEPT’s food safety work?
We’re proud that all employees show strong awareness, a genuine will to do the right thing, and a curiosity to keep learning, together this drives our food safety culture forward.
Q6 | Finally, what would you say to a customer wondering if they can trust ASEPT from a food safety perspective?
Customers can trust ASEPT because our team combines awareness, a will to do the right thing, openness, and transparency in food safety, and we are committed to working and growing together with our customers.
